An attorney for a Raymond woman on trial for the second time on charges connected to a 2021 crash that killed a woman and her baby son said her defense will be that she wasn’t intoxicated.Opening statements will begin Tuesday, before testimony begins in Beth Ann White’s retrial. A jury was seated Monday. White is charged with four counts of aggravated DUI and fourth offense DUI. According to court documents, White has had three prior DUI convictions between 2003 and 2008.The charges stem from the November 2021 collision that killed 39-year-old Allison Conaway and her 6-month-old son, Alex, and seriously injured her two daughters. Prosecutors said White’s blood alcohol level was above the state legal limit when they said she ran a red light at Highway 18 and Springridge Road and plowed into Conaway’s car.During Monday’s jury selection, half a dozen members of the jury pool told the court they can’t be fair to both sides in the trial. Several people told Judge Winston Kidd that they live within 2 or 3 miles of the crash scene and have already made up their minds about whether White is guilty or innocent. One potential juror told the court that she was working at University of Mississippi Medical Center when Conaway’s injured daughters, Chloe and Chelsea, came to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. White’s November trial ended in a hung jury when one of the 12 jurors held out against voting to convict. White’s attorney, Kevin Camp, told the court that White could potentially take the stand in her own defense. White has pleaded not guilty.
