Summary

  • Stephen King’s 2024 Salem’s Lot movie adaptation faces competition from Nosferatu.
  • Similarities between the two films, including their creepy villains, may overshadow Salem’s Lot’s release.
  • Nosferatu could boost the popularity of vampire movies in 2024.

After years of delays, the newest adaptation of a popular Stephen King book is coming out in 2024, yet its release may be dimmed by the premiere of another highly anticipated horror movie: Nosferatu. Horror icon Stephen King has seen his writings adapted to the screen countless times to varying degrees of success. Some of his books have been brought to life over and over again. Now, one of Stephen King’s books is getting yet another chance at a strong adaptation, and this one could be the best. However, it isn’t the only vampire story in the spotlight this year.

Stephen King isn’t the only creator making iconic scary stories these days. Classic horror movies are making a comeback in Hollywood, and remakes are on the rise, including Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein and Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man. However, the next horror legend to return to the big screen is Nosferatu. The pale, pointy-eared vampire is being rebooted by Robert Eggers, and portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. Nosferatu is set to be one of the biggest horror movies of the year, which puts Stephen King’s newest adaptation in a tough position.

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu remake has released its first trailer, and here’s who everyone is and how they compare to their 1922 counterparts.

Nosferatu Looks Like A Great Salem’s Lot-Style Vampire Movie (Which Isn’t Good For The Real Salem’s Lot Movie)

Nosferatu & Salem’s Lot Have Too Much In Common

Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot has already faced various development issues, and now, it may fall under the shadow of a bigger and better vampire movie. Both Salem’s Lot and Nosferatu are iconic vampire movies coming out in 2024, and they look incredibly similar. Based on Nosferatu’s new trailer, the 2024 movie looks like a dark and gothic portrayal of one of Hollywood’s most famous vampires. In many ways, Salem’s Lot is similar. Both stories are creepy small-town tales centering on a vampire with a non-traditional look: snow-white skin, pointy ears, and horrifyingly sharp teeth.

If audiences watch
Nosferatu
first,
Salem’s Lot
may seem like a smaller version of the same movie.

While the commonalities between Salem’s Lot and Nosferatu are already worrying, Nosferatu has another leg-up over Salem’s Lot. Where Salem’s Lot is getting a very delayed release on Max, Nosferatu will get a major theatrical release. This gives the Robert Eggers’ movie way more spotlight than Salem’s Lot. Therefore, if audiences watch Nosferatu first, Salem’s Lot may seem like a smaller version of the same movie. The cast and crew will not seem nearly as glamorous, and the villain will feel too familiar. Ultimately, Salem’s Lot has little chance of standing out next to Nosferatu.

Nosferatu Looks Like It’ll Continue An Optimistic Vampire Movie Trend In 2024

On the bright side, Nosferatu can do important work for the horror genre by keeping vampire movies trending. Throughout 2024, vampire movies have been doing particularly well. For example, 2024’s Abigail garnered great reviews. Therefore, Nosferatu has the chance to keep the positive vampire trend going. Maybe Salem’s Lot can do the same. Vampire movies may see a new renaissance. Either way, audiences have a lot of vampires to look forward to when it comes to Nosferatu and Salem’s Lot.

Salem’s Lot
is the second book ever published by Stephen King.
