Summary

Another character from the universe of Winnie-the-Pooh is getting his own horror movie, and it might actually be better than both Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movies. The horror genre has been seizing various trends lately, even if not all of them have been successful, and one, in particular, has been quite controversial. Thanks to different children’s stories and characters becoming part of the public domain, many filmmakers have made horror movies out of them. This trend gained force with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey, released in 2023, and it continues despite its critical failure.

The popularity of Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey has now made way for a shared universe of dark reimaginings of children’s characters and stories called The Twisted Childhood Universe, set to have a crossover event titled Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble. Blood and Honey and now its shared universe have also prompted other filmmakers to take these same characters and make their own horror versions of them, and this is now happening with Pooh’s best friend, Piglet – and this solo movie might be better than what Blood and Honey has done so far.

Piglet Will Star In His Own Slasher Movie

Piglet
is said to blend elements of classic slashers such as
Friday the 13th
and
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
and is even compared to
Motel Hell.

Winnie-the-Pooh’s best friend, the always adorable Piglet, is now getting his own slasher movie, without the rest of his friends from the Hundred Acre Wood. Simply titled Piglet, the movie is produced by SpookHouse MediaWorks and Strange Film Studios, and it’s completely separate from Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey and its shared universe. Piglet is said to blend elements of classic slashers such as Friday the 13th and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and is even compared to Motel Hell, with the production team committed to the genre’s practical effects roots (via Bloody Disgusting).

Motel Hell
is a 1980 comedy horror film that follows Vincent Smith – a farmer, butcher, motel manager, and meat entrepreneur – who harvests travelers for his human sausages, and, at one point, wears a pig mask.

Directed by August Aguilar, Piglet will take viewers to the remote Appalachian hills to meet the title character, the son of a “once industrious butcher and marred by tragedy”. When a group of “fame-hungry millennials” trespass onto Piglet’s land and one of them kills his beloved pig, Piglet sets out on a revenge mission to get rid of the trespassers in the most brutal way. It’s unclear what Piglet‘s connection is with the lovable Winnie-the-Pooh character aside from sharing a name, but it already sounds better than what the Blood and Honey movies have done with him.

Piglet’s Slasher Movie Looks More Promising Than Blood & Honey’s Films

Piglet’s Solo Movie Sounds More Believable Than Blood & Honey

The synopsis of
Piglet
implies the character is a human looking for revenge, and it might follow on
Motel Hell’
s steps and have him wear a pig mask.

The first Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey movie only had two characters from the Hundred Acre Wood: Pooh and Piglet. In the world of Blood and Honey, Pooh and friends are anthropomorphic creatures who, after Christopher Robin abandoned them, returned to their feral instincts. However, the characters looked like nothing more than grown-up men wearing plastic bear and pig masks, and though the sequel changed the characters’ design, they still don’t look believable or actually scary. Piglet, on the other hand, doesn’t mention the character actually being a pig.

Instead, the synopsis of Piglet implies the character is a human looking for revenge, and it might follow on Motel Hell’s steps and have him wear a pig mask, hence the title. Piglet has a simpler premise than Blood and Honey and its classic slasher influences and inspirations feel quite fitting, with Piglet being a villain like Jason Voorhees and Leatherface rather than a weird anthropomorphic being. It’s to be seen if Piglet succeeds with critics and general audiences, but its future already looks promising.

Winnie the Pooh Blood and Honey Poster

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey

Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is a modern horror film featuring the characters from the classic story written by A.A. Milne. Christopher Robin used to spend his spare time with Pooh Bear, piglet, and the other creatures of the wood, but now that he’s grown older, he heads off to college, leaving Pooh and his friends to fend for themselves. As Christopher used to bring them food, they now have little food and turn savage, with Pooh and Piglet slaying the other forest friends to survive. Following Christopher Robin’s return, Pooh and Piglet begin a murderous rampage that leads to a group of vacationing college girls.
