Today’s Connections Hints & Answers For May 24, 2024 (Puzzle #347)
The newest Connections is here and today’s game is ready to break some long-standing win streaks. There is a fun and eclectic mix of categories in today’s selection without any of them being too niche. Broad categories tend to be easier to decipher, but this particular day still has some difficulty.
With the many one-a-day games popping up, it’s nice to find those few that you can enjoy, and for many, that’s Connections. Its simple and fun gameplay rewards taking chances with matches that may not work initially. The most important tip to playing a game of Connections is to take your time. There is no timer and thinking out the actual matches is the key to victory.

SEWER |
Today’s game was a huge loss for us and yellow ended up being the only category we scored correctly, but not until after we lost a few attempts. There were too many different matches that our brains just refused to let go of and we paid for that. Luckily, before the loss we were able to hit the yellow correctly.
SEWER and DRAIN were the starting words and the other two came fairly quickly. We also missed another attempt trying to make SEA work with this over DUCT, but that was an obvious miss. Not a great day for our Connections.

CHEESE |

SCHMALTZ |
CHEESE, CORN, SAP, and EGG. I think we tried that more than once but at least the game doesn’t penalize you for forgetting your own darn guesses. I still have no idea what a SCHMALTZ is. Google says it’s “rendered animal fat, usually from a chicken.” How that fits into sentimentality, I’ll never know.

I wish we would have scored today’s blue category only because it’s pretty clever. We love it when Connections gets clever. It feels like SMILE and KNUCKLES should have been the starters of this particular category, but we were so hung up on fitting EGG in with other food words that it was just lost on us. Sometimes, if I crack too many eggs I eventually have to crack a window.

I can’t look at those two words together without thinking of Loose Seal from Arrested Development. It has nothing to do with today’s Connections, but it will make me feel better after this devastating loss. I should go watch a Star War.
