Travel industry continues to struggle day before Fourth of July

The travel industry continues to have its struggles just one day before the Fourth of July.Locally, regionally and internationally airlines are having trouble keeping up with demand in planes and pilots. According to Flight Aware, nearly 6,000 flights were delayed and 655 were canceled on Saturday nationwide.A few travelers at the Jackson Medgar Evers Airport were fortunate enough to not deal with many issues during their trips. “We really haven’t had many issues except for Sunday. It’s been a little busy taking a while to check in and all that,” said one traveler. Those traveling on the roadways for the Fourth of July should see a slight dip in gas prices at some gas stations. According to AAA, the average gas price for regular gas in Mississippi is at $4.35, $0.08 lower than last week’s average. Mississippi’s gas prices are showing some of lowest prices in the country, $0.47 below the national average of $4.82.
