For 23 years, the Pantone Color Institute forecasts the color trends we can expect to see in the upcoming year. They find inspiration in different aspects of the world, including tech, social media, graphic design, art, and travel. And they’ve finally revealed the 2023 color to represent the age of technology.
It’s a new hue rooted in a crimson color called “Viva Magenta” (Pantone 18-1750). According to the Institute’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman, “PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known.” So what does Viva Magenta look like as well as the entire Magentaverse?
This bold audacious color immediately sparks all kinds of joy within our souls and is a much brighter and richer hue than Pantone gave us in 2022 with Veri Peri, which exudes subtle confidence with a sprightly attitude and dynamic presence.
In 2021, Pantone surprised us with two contrasting colors in the Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow, while the 2020 Color of the Year was a timeless shade of Classic Blue. The Pantone Color Institute is certainly an influential force in fashion as they treated us to a fall fashion lineup with the Forever 21 x Pantone collab.
Even though Viva Magenta is still too new to find at most retailers, Pantone has partnered with several brands to make the hue available even faster. Celebrating the technology that inspires the 2023 color, Lenovo and Motorola are Pantone’s official technology partners for the Pantone Color of the Year. They’ll be rolling out their products in the coming weeks and months.

Motorola x Pantone
As the other official technology partner for Pantone Color of the Year 2023, the new Motorola Edge 30 Fusion will be available in Viva Magenta along with the wireless MOTO BUDS in Pantone’s complementary color “Winetasting” as a bundle starting Dec.12 at Motorola.com.
Cariuma x Pantone
Cariuma, a super-conscious skate shoe brand, is Pantone’s official footwear partner for their Viva the PANTONE Color of the Year 2023. This year, the Color of the Year is available in six sneaker styles available now. For every pair of sneakers sold, Cariuma plants two trees. Cariuma Viva Magenta sneakers start at $89.
Spoonflower x Pantone
