Teddy bears have their roots in President Theodore Roosevelt’s famous hunting incident in 1902. During a hunting expedition in Mississippi, Roosevelt refused to shoot a wounded bear, which inspired cartoonist Clifford Berryman to draw a caricatured bear. This caricature, known as “Teddy’s Bear,” became a cultural phenomenon and led to the creation of the first teddy bears.
