Summary

  • Young Sheldon
‘s special one-hour finale will air on May 16, but there will be another double-header night scheduled for May 9.
  • The remaining episodes aim to wrap up ongoing plots such as George’s impending death and give closure to other characters.
  • Expect guest appearances from Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik in the
    Young Sheldon
finale, with possible special cameos to properly conclude Sheldon’s story.

Young Sheldon will have another double-header night ahead of its special one-hour finale. The Big Bang Theory prequel is down to its last few episodes, with the show devoting the majority of its stories to wrapping up the Coopers’ story in Texas while Sheldon gets ready to move to Pasadena, California. After a long deliberation, Young Sheldon is forced to end with a shortened year due to its delayed premiere. This means that while its usual run would churn out more than 20 episodes, CBS needs to tackle all lingering storylines for a satisfying finale in just 14 outings.

Per CBS, Young Sheldon season 7 episodes 11 and 12 will be airing back-to-back on May 9 — a week before the one-hour finale that will be on broadcast on May 16. Considering the prequel’s current schedule, this appears to be planned from the get-go, considering that it won’t have any more mini-breaks between now and the show’s send-off. No official reason has been announced, but it’s likely a part of CBS’ attempt to make the most out of the annual sweeps week period.

What To Expect From The Remainder Of Young Sheldon’s Run

Young Sheldon Still Has Some Plots To Tackle.

Based on what was revealed in The Big Bang Theory and established in the prequel, there are ongoing plots that must be addressed before the family comedy/drama ends. On top of the list is George’s impending death in Young Sheldon. The prequel has dropped several clues as to how the Cooper patriarch will meet his end, but there is still no concrete indication as to when and how he will pass away. After Young Sheldon retconned George’s cheating scandal, this is the only remaining big storyline for the character, which means that it can happen anytime soon.

While George and Mandy’s spinoff will technically continue the prequel’s narrative, it will be focused on just the couple, since none of the remaining Coopers will join the show as series regulars.

Secondly, Young Sheldon should also give Mary, Missy, and Meemaw definitive endings, considering that this will likely be the end of the road for them. While George and Mandy’s spinoff will technically continue the prequel’s narrative, it will be focused on them, since none of the remaining Coopers will join the show as series regulars. Even if they appear as guests, it won’t be enough to move their stories forward. Finally, Sheldon’s life should be properly transitioned into his eventual arc in The Big Bang Theory — something that has already started when he chose Caltech to be his next school.

Whether the writers have anything else up their sleeves, it’s safe to say that the remainder of Young Sheldon‘s run will be focused on building towards the aforementioned plots. Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik are confirmed to appear as Sheldon and Amy in the finale, but it’s possible that CBS has a couple of more special cameos up their sleeves. If that’s the case, hopefully, there will be some Pasadena gang members to make a cameo to properly finish off Sheldon’s story.
