New leaks about Yunli in Honkai: Star Rail 2.4 have emerged, hinting at a game-changing mechanic. Yunli has already been confirmed as one of the upcoming 5-star units in the next update, alongside Jiaoqiu. Yunli is a Physical Destruction character and a few leaks have already outlined her gameplay kit, such as her rumored ability to counter enemy attacks with her own powerful follow-up attacks. However, new leaks are highlighting a unique Yunli mechanic in Version 2.4. For reference, the next patch is also the one that will introduce the new March 7th form to Honkai: Star Rail.

As seen in information obtained by the leaker known as HomDGCat, which was then shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit, Yunli will participate in a special story-exclusive battle added with Version 2.4. In a sense, she will work as an assist skill that uses a special move against opponents, much like the summonables used in boss fights like Phantylia, for example. However, as highlighted by the leaker, Yunli will be competing with players as they control Yanqing and try to defeat the enemies in Honkai: Star Rail.

Yunli’s Leaked Assist Skill In Honkai: Star Rail 2.4 May Be Bad For Players

Despite the nature of an assist skill, Yunli’s leaked story-exclusive ability may actually not be good news for players. According to the leaker, Yunli and Yanqing will engage in a friendly competition to see how many enemies each one can defeat. The player will allegedly take on the side of Yanqing, although they will be able to use their own team comp for the battle. Meanwhile, as seen in the leak, Yunli will appear at a fixed interval with 60 SPD attacking enemies with Physical DMG in Honkai: Star Rail, most likely in an AoE (area of effect).

As such, if players are not quick enough to eliminate their targets, Yunli might swoop in and steal the kills, bolstering her numbers. According to the leaker, if players defeated more enemies than Yunli, Yanqing will be considered the victor, whereas the opposite is also true. The exact outcome of Yanqing or Yunli’s victory is unknown, though it should not affect the story too much as the game does not have drastically branching paths – on occasion, players make dialogue choices in Honkai: Star Rail, though the differences are only limited to the moment.

Assist skills in boss fights and specific types of encounters are not rare in the game and have been present since its release – in the early game fight against Cocolia, for instance, players could summon the giant mech hand to punch down on the boss and her summons. Most recently, players gained the ability to use a special Trailblazer-focused assist skill during the Great Septimus boss in Honkai: Star Rail. This is, however, the first time it is used against the player without actually damaging them.

Most assist skills are triggered by the player rather than having a fixed speed on the action bar.

For now, however, the leaks should be considered with caution, as they may be incorrect or subject to change ahead of the update’s release. Version 2.4 should arrive on July 30 if the game’s regular patch schedule suffers no delays. Players will only know if the special Yunli mechanic is actually true once it is implemented in Honkai: Star Rail, as this type of feature is not even showcased during the special livestream.
