In the penultimate episode of Andor’s first season, Luthen Rael proved once and for all that he’s one of the Star Wars universe’s greatest badasses. As an Imperial command ship tried to trap Luthen’s plucky little haulcraft with its tractor beam, he sent a payload of shrapnel to destroy the tractor beam, then took down an entire fleet of TIE fighters before disappearing into hyperspace.
Luthen’s Fondor has earned a spot alongside the X-wing and the Millennium Falcon as one of the coolest ships in a galaxy far, far away. It’s the latest awesome ship to be introduced in the Disney era of Star Wars, after the Mandalorian’s Razor Crest and the Final Order’s fleet of Star Destroyers with the power of the Death Star.
10/10 Luthen Rael’s Fondor Haulcraft
Of all the many new ships introduced in Andor, by far the coolest is Luthen Rael’s awesome little Fondor Haulcraft. While it’s purpose-built to be a cargo ship, it proved to be a pretty effective battleship when Luthen got caught in the tractor beam of an Imperial surveillance ship.
Luthen destroyed the tractor beam by jettisoning shrapnel in the direction of the dish, then used his dual lightsaber-like lasers to take out a bunch of TIE fighters before vanishing into hyperspace.
9/10 Razor Crest
Din Djarin instantly became one of Star Wars’ most compelling protagonists when The Mandalorian debuted on Disney+, and his ship the Razor Crest instantly became one of its most beloved ships. Every Mando fan would like to take a ride in the Razor Crest.
The Razor Crest is essentially a lunky RV that flies through space, like a version of Spaceballs’ Eagle 5 that actually exists in the Star Wars universe.
8/10 Kylo Ren’s Command Shuttle
The citizens of the galaxy get an ominous sense of dread when they see Kylo Ren’s command shuttle landing on their planet. It means that somebody is about to get killed – possibly even an entire village.
John Williams always announced the arrival of Kylo Ren’s command shuttle with one of the most sinister and memorable musical themes in the sequel trilogy.
7/10 U-Wing
In order to separate the look of Rogue One from the World War II aesthetic of the original trilogy, director Gareth Edwards decided to go for a Vietnam War aesthetic – hence the setting of the exotic jungles of Scarif in the final battle.
The U-wing seen in Rogue One was designed as a space version of the “Huey” helicopters used by the American military during the Vietnam War.
6/10 Mandator IV-Class Dreadnaught
Dreadnaught ships are nothing new in the Star Wars universe, but this particular type of Dreadnaught is new for the Disney era. The Last Jedi opens right after The Force Awakens, with the First Order retaliating against the Resistance, and Poe Dameron defies his orders so he can take on the fleet alone.
Described by Poe as a “fleet killer,” the First Order’s Mandator IV-Class Dreadnaught is certainly a step up from the Imperial Star Destroyers.
5/10 The Raddus
In The Last Jedi’s space chase B-plot, General Leia Organa guides the Resistance fleet from her command ship, the Raddus. This ship was made famous when Holdo used it to plow through the First Order’s Supremacy at lightspeed.
The Raddus isn’t just a cool ship; it has a cool backstory. At Admiral Ackbar’s insistence, the ship was named after Admiral Raddus, one of the heroes of Rogue One’s Battle of Scarif.
4/10 Death Star-Powered Star Destroyers
After giving the Star Wars saga its third Death Star in The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams opted not to go with yet another Death Star storyline in The Rise of Skywalker. But he still wanted to blow up some planets, so he created a fleet of Star Destroyers fitted with their own Death Star-powered cannons.
One of the most mind-blowing shots in the movie is the practical effect of one of these Death Star-powered Star Destroyers blowing up Kijimi.
3/10 Black One
Throughout the sequel trilogy, Poe Dameron established himself as one of the most lovable badasses in the entire Star Wars universe. As a hotshot maverick and a hero of the Resistance, he’s like Luke Skywalker and Han Solo rolled into one.
Poe wouldn’t be able to pull off his impressive feats of bravery without the help of “Black One,” his personal X-wing fighter with a booster pack installed in the back.
2/10 The Ghost
The ragtag band of Lothal resistance fighters at the heart of the Rebels animated series used “The Ghost” as their home base. The Ghost is a tricked-out Corellian VCX-100 light freighter, owned and piloted by Hera Syndulla during the Age of the Empire.
After its central role in Rebels made it familiar to eagle-eyed fans, this plucky anti-Imperial ship made a triumphant return at the Battle of Exegol in The Rise of Skywalker.
1/10 The Mandalorian’s N-1 Starfighter
After the Razor Crest was tragically blown up by the Imperial Remnants, Mando was shown to be riding the space bus from bounty to bounty when he appeared in The Book of Boba Fett. But after raising the money to buy a new ship, he went to Peli Motto’s workshop to fix up an N-1 starfighter.
Mando switched out the yellow paint job for a sleek silver design and turned the droid pod into a little cockpit for Grogu. It’ll be great to see more of this ship in The Mandalorian season 3 next year.
