Jackson Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes wants federal help to deal with the city’s ongoing crime crisis.Stokes plans to make his proposal at Tuesday’s city council meeting.The plan calls for cases of violent crime that involve felons with guns to be referred to the U.S. Attorney’s office for federal prosecution. Stokes believes that repeat offenders are committing violent crimes and that this proposal will help cases go to trial quicker. Stokes will also call for hiring 100 more police officers in the Jackson Police Department.He plans to speak with other council members about his proposal before Tuesday’s meeting.
