Bronson Pinchot’s Beverly Hills Cop Role Explained

Pinchot’s Serge Has Been A Fan Favorite Since The Original Movie

First appearing in 1984’s original Beverly Hills Cop, Pinchot’s character was a small yet memorable part of the film that first catapulted Murphy from a stand-up comedian into an internationally recognized movie star. Initially depicted as a European art salesman working in the gallery owned by Beverly Hills Cop’s primary villain, Victor Maitland, Serge’s first onscreen appearance was a hilarious encounter where he repeatedly struggled to pronounce Axel’s name.

While Pinchot would not return for 1987’s Beverly Hills Cop II, his character’s immense popularity ultimately saw him assume a much more significant role in 1994’s threequel. Leaving his former life as an art salesman behind, Serge would instead open his own business specializing in boutique weaponry and personal protective devices. Foley returned to Serge to help arm himself against Ellis DeWald (Timothy Carhart) and his henchmen, ultimately providing him with the multi-functional Annihilator 2000, which includes a machine gun and a microwave oven, cell phone, and CD player.

Though it is not clear whether Serge will still be in the boutique arms market in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, his lavishly appointed surroundings would suggest that life has been kind to him since audiences last saw him. Now sporting blonde hair and a vibrant shirt, Serge does not appear to have lost any of his trademark flamboyance. More importantly, however, his return potentially points to more hilarious interactions with Murphy’s streetwise detective.
