Chilly and breezy Tuesday, freeze warning in effect for Wednesday morning

16 WAPT’s Christana Kay Meteorologist has the latest forecast for Jackson and Central Mississippi.

happy Tuesday everybody the winter chill is here for the next couple of days, much of Central Mississippi feeling like the thirties this morning, feeling like 38 Jackson, mid to upper thirties from Belzoni to Carthage 35 is the real feel around seven o’clock this morning in Bass field and the upper thirties and fayette and Natchez. So it is *** chilly day. The winds have tapered off *** little bit this morning but they are expected to pick back up by the afternoon hours, gust at times 15 to 25 miles an hour likely. So that wildfire threat in the entire magnolia state today we have that state wild land fire alert due to gusty conditions, low humidity and dry conditions. After today, we are still looking at that state wildland fire alert in effect. So you want to check with your county’s to make sure that it is okay or if you have any restrictions for any open burning and if you are allowed to open burn later on this week, you want to make sure you establish wide control lines to make sure that fire does not get out of control for today. It’s gonna be *** breezy one and temperatures are going to stay on the chilly side. We’re not going to warm up very much only into the mid to upper fifties, *** few clouds south of I 20 today, but after sunset we turn cold very quickly, that deep dip in the jet stream all the way down towards the southeast. We have freeze warnings in effect either this morning tomorrow morning or thursday morning for us here in central Mississippi in the entire state, we have *** freeze warning and effect tomorrow morning. *** free watch in effect for thursday morning. And it is possible that watch could be upgraded to *** warning for thursday morning. So more updates on that later to come today and into tomorrow overnight. Tonight temperatures hovering at or below freezing is going to be likely same story for thursday. Many areas will be getting close to if not breaking record temperatures Wednesday and thursday morning for Jackson tying that record, possibly that was set back in 1948 at 31 degrees tomorrow morning, not expecting us to break the record here in Jack on thursday, but again, some areas are going to get close to if not tied the record for thursday morning. Up we go on the roller coaster ride by the end of the week and into the weekend, temperatures will be warming at or above average by the weekend. Perfect time for all those homecoming games across the magnolia state temperatures in the seventies and eighties. Looking ahead for our next cold front that’s set to arrive possibly the upcoming week. Lots of uncertainties about it, but there’s the possibility of some rain in the forecast next week
