A Fondren woman and her daughter are back at square one following the storms last week. She and many in Jackson are still struggling to recover from the storm.A tree fell onto Jenni Watson’s home last week, but it’s been especially hard on her and her daughter.”We are hard workers, and we’re just trying to go along and do the best we could, we’ve tried to never ask people for help but help where we could,” said Watson.Jenni and her daughter Arryan are well-known around the community. Her husband passed away in 2019, and soon after COVID hit, she lost her thriving doggy day care business.”I ironically just looked into getting insurance again, I needed $900 for the down payment, I had 700 because I just paid property taxes, and the check that was going to be the other $200 dropped the same day the tree did,” said Watson.In a state of vulnerability, she decided to talk to 16 WAPT to get her story out. She said she couldn’t fathom leaving behind her Jackson home.”I feel like in a time period we’re in, a family home like this, some big company, some big property management company is going to come in and they don’t live her they don’t live with us. I kind of would hate for another house to go in that direction,” Watson said.The community has pulled through to help out, friends in Fondren including Terry Sullivan, the General manager at Fondren Fitness found someone to put a tarp up over her damaged roof and started up a GoFundMe.”I’m trying to do what I can to help them out, but I would encourage anyone else out there to help out anyone any way you can, as part of our community here in Jackson we need to band together and help out,” said Sullivan.But that isn’t all, just as a lot of others don’t know. Jenni didn’t know who to reach out to when this happened.The American Red Cross is just one organization, that prides itself on helping. Following the metro storms they have set up a resource service center at Lake Elementary School, open till Friday from 9 a.m.. to 4:30 p.m..If you’re in need following the storms, and can’t get to the service center. You can still get help from the Red Cross by calling 1-800-Red Cross.
