Beaver Seeds - Get Out and Grow Spring Sasquatch 300x250

We head out of Carbondale, Illinois on a beautiful fall afternoon on the Harley Ultra Glide CVO for the old French colonial town of Prarie du Rocher founded in 1722, in the French Colonial Historic District. We swing by the Menard Maximum Security State Prison, cross the Chester bridge over the Mississippi River and then through Chester, Illinois which is the home of EC Segar the creator of Popeye, who I’m told a distant relative of mine where we pass by the historic Popeye Thimble Theater, 1850’s Stone Cottage and the old Randolph County Courthouse Annex. Prairie du Rocher is then a short ride up the Mississippi River along the beautiful bluffs of the American Bottoms and has a few very old houses, the Melliere house (1735) and Creole house, (1800) where I do a “break and enter”. Theres also a colonial fort, the Fort de Chartres, built by the French in 1720, then taken over by the British in 1863 and an old Catholic cemetery. We stop for a great lunch at Lisa’s Market Street Grille when we arrive then head out to explore. The fall foliage was great too. Come along for the ride, southern Illinois has some of the best riding in the USA!
