    James Bond
movie with Aaron Taylor-Johnson as 007.

    Bond
    movie.
  • Bond 26
could benefit from Leitch’s action expertise, injecting a sense of fun and adventure into the franchise.

John Wick co-director David Leitch is keen to helm the next James Bond movie with his Bullet Train star Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Leitch, who previously worked as a stunt coordinator alongside his fellow John Wick director Chad Stahelski, has quickly made a name for himself as a leading action director, having followed up his work on the original John Wick movie with blockbuster films like Deadpool 2, Bullet Train, and Violent Night. Most recently, Leitch reteamed with the rumored Bond front-runner Taylor-Johnson on his latest action-comedy The Fall Guy.

While Leitch co-directed the original
John Wick
with Stahelski, the latter is officially credited as the movie’s sole director, while Leitch holds a producing credit.

Speaking with CinemaBlend during a recent press junket for The Fall Guy, Leitch commented on Taylor-Johnson potentially becoming the next James Bond and expressed his desire to direct Bond 26. Suggesting that “he’s never gotten to do enough action with Aaron,” the director praised his star’s athletic abilities and said he would make an excellent 007. Check out his comments below:

He would be an amazing James Bond. I’ll just go on the record like, I’ve never gotten to do enough action with Aaron, which is crazy. We’ve done Bullet Train and now, we’ve done The Fall Guy. What I really want to do is an action movie with him, because he’s such an incredible athlete. Like Aaron is awesome. Yeah. So, maybe we’ll get that opportunity soon, and I’ll get to direct Bond.

Bond 26 Could Benefit From John Wick’s Sense Of Adventure

Daniel Craig’s Bond Films Were The Franchise’s Most Grounded

However, with a new actor now set to take the helm, perhaps the more fantastical elements of the
John Wick
franchise could serve to reinject
James Bond
with a sense of fun and adventure that has been missing in recent years.

While Bond producers are still yet to officially announce which actor will follow Daniel Craig’s 007, most speculation keeps returning to Taylor-Johnson as the clear frontrunner. Yet, regardless of whether the Kraven the Hunter star lands the coveted role or not, Eon Productions will likely also be looking for a way to differentiate their new Bond from his acclaimed predecessor. Craig’s sendoff came in 2021’s No Time to Die, and it served as a conclusive end to what began as a controversial chapter in the long-running spy franchise.

Credited with imbuing the Bond franchise with modern sensibilities, Craig’s tenure as the world’s most famous MI-6 agent was characterized by a far more grounded and serious take on the character than any of those before him. However, with a new actor now set to take the helm, perhaps the more fantastical elements of the John Wick franchise could serve to reinject James Bond with a sense of fun and adventure that has been missing in recent years. It would also help the enduring franchise stand out among the new crop of action movies that have prioritized daring stunts.

Moreover, with Leitch’s other movies proving that he is a deft hand at blending high-impact action and comedy, his take on Bond 26 could also potentially see a return to the wise-cracking 007 of years gone by. If Taylor-Johnson is indeed the actor destined to pick up James Bond’s license to kill, reteaming him with Leitch could potentially offer audiences a 007 equally able to disarm his opponents with both slick action moves and quippy one-liners.
