To counter Mewtwo in a Pokémon GO Raid battle, Trainers will need to assemble a party of Pokémon with Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type Movesets.

Mewtwo is a Psychic-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO that will serve as a Raid Boss between June 16 and July 1, 2022. As a Tier-5 Raid Boss, this bipedal, humanoid Pokémon will have a Combat Power rating of 54,148, meaning that a Trainer must team up with two or more players for this fight. If a member in the Raid party in Pokémon GO is under-leveled, then five or more Trainers might be necessary to take down Mewtwo. Naturally, facing Mewtwo alone will probably result in an unfortunate loss of Revives and Healing Potions. Accordingly, having an adequate number of players with high-CP counters will be essential for victory.

As a Psychic-type Pokémon from Kanto, Mewtwo is resistant to Fighting- and Psychic-type Moves. Accordingly, it would be impractical to use Pokémon such as Sawk or Hitmonlee in this Raid battle. On the other hand, Mewtwo’s single elemental trait makes it highly vulnerable to Bug-, Ghost-, and Dark-type attacks. Thus, Trainers will need to assemble a Raid party of Pokémon that offers these countering elements in Pokémon GO.

The top-tier counters for the Mewtwo Raid in Pokémon GO are Mega Gengar, Mega Houndoom, Shadow Weavile, Shadow Tyranitar, Mega Gyarados, and Mega Absol. However, not all Trainers will have these highly rare Shadow or Mega Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Alternatively, the regular Pokémon listed below are more than capable of countering Mewtwo in combat.
