Oh Hello, Target Car Seat Trade-in Event

Did you know car seats have expiration dates? I didn’t know until I had my first baby and learned that car seats came to the end of their life after six years. I also quickly realized that kids grow like weeds and a tiny infant car seat facing backward gets turned forward in a blink, along with long legs flailing about as your tiny baby turns into a rip-roaring toddler.

If you love to recycle and save money, you’ll do a little dance over the Target Car Seat Trade-in Event happening now through April 27. During the event, lots of baby gear is on sale, like up to 25% off select car seats and strollers and 15% off select baby travel accessories. Plus, you get an extra 20% off (on top of those savings) when you trade in an old car seat.

You do have to be a Target Circle member to cash in on these savings, but it’s free to join. Before you go to the store, download the Target app because you’ll need it to get your 20% off bonus.

When Is the Target Car Seat Trade-in Event?

Since Target started its trade-in program in 2016, it has recycled over 39 million pounds. You have two opportunities during the year to take advantage — once in April and again in September. The spring Trade-in Event starts on April 14 and lasts until April 27.

What Is the Target Car Seat Trade-in Event?

The Target Car Seat Trade-in Event is an opportunity for parents, and really anyone lugging around an old car seat, to recycle it and get a new car seat, stroller, or select baby gear for 20% off. And it doesn’t matter how damaged or gross it is — Target will take it. Target works with its partners to recycle the materials from old car seats, which means you’re also giving back to the environment.

The 20% discount can be applied to your next qualifying purchase, such as a new car seat, car seat base, travel system, stroller, or select baby home gear (playyards, high chairs, swings, rockers, bouncers, walkers, entertainers, and jumpers). The bonus can be applied to in-store and online purchases up to two times before it expires on May 11.
