Rafael Nadal made an impressive return from injury, defeating Flavio Cobolli in straight sets in the first round of the Barcelona Open

After three months out, Nadal defeated the 21-year-old Italian 6-2 6-3 in under 90 minutes on court.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion initially made a comeback at the Brisbane International in January after a year out due to a hip flexor injury that ultimately required surgery.

A muscle tear subsequently ruled him out of the Australian Open and a back problem sidelined him since.

The 12-time champion in Barcelona will face fourth seed Alex De Minaur of Australia in the second round as he continues to gear up to the start of the French Open on May 20, where he is a record 14-time winner.

De Minaur is currently enjoying the best season of his career, having broken into the world’s top 10 for the first time.
