Ridgeland apartment fire ravages through 8 homes

A fire broke out at the Van Mark Apartments, destroying an entire apartment building. Ridgeland Fire Chief Matthew Bailey said the fire started around 10 p.m. Wednesday night.He said it started on the upper floor of building 26 and then spread to the other apartments throughout the building.Bailey said firefighters were able to knock it down quickly, as flames were already coming out of the roof and windows. Fire crews stayed on scene for several hours, making sure the fire didn’t rekindle.There were no injuries as a result of the fire, and the cause is still under investigation.
