The Jackson Fire Department is remembering the legacy of their fallen hero, Gerald Bates affectionately known as “Buster.”Firemen viewed the body on Friday, preparing to say their goodbyes. Several law enforcement agencies responded to a call on Ferguson Drive weeks ago. When they arrived, they found Bates unresponsive with a gunshot wound. His partner of 10 years, 48-year-old Tammie Williams, was charged in his death.Jackson fire Chief Willie Owens expressed gratitude for the work of his late fireman.“He was a guy always trying to help. Very outgoing, outspoken, but he was a great guy and he just a guy we’re going to miss,” Owens said. Owens says majority of the department will be attending the funeral and they will have firemen from other cities assisting.
