Summary

  • The Masked Singer season 11 Group B’s Gumball is likely actor and singer Scott Porter, based on a clue that shared a personal story shared during Girl Group Night.
  • Musical references, beatboxing, and acting clues all point to Scott’s identity as Gumball on The Masked Singer season 11.
  • None of the Masked Singer panelists have guessed that Gumball is Scott so far.

The Masked Singer season 11 Group B’s Gumball has been a mystery, but his Girl Group Night clue has all but confirmed who he really is. Gumball made his debut on The Wizard of Oz Night, singing a medley of “If I Only Had a Heart” by Jack Haley, who played the Tinman in the film, and “Heartbeat Song” by Kelly Clarkson. Later in the episode, Gumball went head-to-head in the first Smackdown of the season with Afghan Hound, during which they both sang “Ding Dong! The Witch Is Dead” from The Wizard of Oz.

During The Masked Singer season 11 Smackdown, Gumball moved on to the next round, while Afghan Hound was unmasked and revealed to be reality TV star Savannah Chrisley. On Girl Group Night, Gumball sang an inspiring version of “Wide Open Spaces” by The Chicks. This time, he sailed through the round, and made it to the Group B finals, which will be Soundtrack of My Life Night. Throughout The Masked Singer season 11 so far, the panelists have guessed that Gumball might be Chace Crawford, Kevin Jonas, Jamie Dornan, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Derek Hough, or Taran Killam. However, none of these guesses is correct.

The Masked Singer’s Gumball Is Most Likely Scott Porter

The Masked Singer season 11’s Gumball’s voice and clues indicate that he is most likely actor and singer Scott Porter. Scott is best known for his roles as Jason Street in Friday Night Lights and George Tucker in Hart of Dixie. In addition, Scott is an accomplished singer, who starred in the off-Broadway show, Altar Boyz.

The Personal Story Clue That Confirmed Gumball’s Identity As Scott Porter

There have been many clues that Gumball is Scott, but the personal story that he told on Girl Group Night confirmed it. During his clue package, Gumball said, “It’s exciting to perform on Girl Group Night because there’s actually one girl who’s been singing lead in my life for years: my wife. I still remember the night I met her, an angel from across the room. I knew right then and there I would spend the rest of my life with her.”

However, Gumball explained that things then took a tragic turn. He continued, “And everything was perfect. Until she was diagnosed with a disease that will impact her later in life. Suddenly, the forever that we were planning looked very different, and we had a decision to make.” Gumball explained, “We could let what’s on the horizon define us. Or we could choose to be present each and every moment. To say yes more, and explore all of the wide open spaces out there. And, tonight, I’m singing one of her favorite songs just for her.”

Unfortunately, Gumball’s story about his wife matches Scott’s wife’s story. Scott married casting director Kelsey Mayfield in 2013, after they met on the set of Friday Night Lights. Kelsey’s mother was diagnosed with Huntington’s disease, which is a brain disease that has no cure and causes slurred speech, forgetfulness, mood swings, and depression. Tragically, Kelsey has also tested positive for the gene, which means that she’ll eventually develop the disease. Sadly, this clue confirmed Gumball’s identity as Scott, but it was inspiring to hear that he and Kelly are choosing to find positivity in the face of a difficult situation.

Other Gumball Clues That Prove He’s Scott Porter

In addition to Gumball’s story about his wife, there are other Masked Singer clues that prove that he’s Scott. There were many references to Scott’s musical talents, including his beatboxing. A map of the American South with the heart in the center of it was a reference to Hart of Dixie, while a set of angel wings and a halo referred to Altar Boyz, the off-Broadway show about a fictitious Christian boy band in which Scott starred. The scene with Gumball playing many instruments including the drums and guitar was a clue about his role in the film Bandslam. Gumball also said that he starred with Channing Tatum, and Scott was in Dear John with the actor.

There was also a black spider clue, which paid homage to his voice work in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man and Spidey and His Amazing Friends. Gumball was also said to have the heart of a superhero, which referenced these roles, as well as his voice work as Cyclops/Scott Summers in Marvel Anime: Wolverine and Marvel Anime: X-Men and as White Wolf in Avengers Assemble.

Although Gumball’s true identity won’t be revealed until he’s unmasked, the clues seem to indicate that he’s Scott. As he continues through the competition, even more clues will help to prove his true identity. For now, viewers can continue to enjoy Gumball’s beautiful performances, keeping in mind that it’s probably Scott who’s hiding under his mask.
