It was a big night for the state of Mississippi. Ole Miss guard Marquesha Davis, Mississippi State forward Jessika Carter and Jackson State center Angel Jackson were all selected in the Monday’s WNBA Draft.Davis was picked 11th in the first round by the New York Liberty. She led the Rebels in scoring this year after her best season of college basketball. She played stout defense under Yolett McPhee-McCuin and she projects to be a key two-way player for the Liberty.Carter, MSU’s second all-time rebounder, will team up with her college rival in New York. The Liberty picked Carter with the 23rd pick in the second round.Jackson becomes the second player under JSU head coach Tomekia Reed to get drafted. Ameshya Williams, also out of Jackson State, was picked by the Indiana Fever in 2022. Both Williams and Jackson are now the only two HBCU players get drafted into the WNBA in the last 20 years.Jackson, the California native, is a two-time SWAC Defensive Player of the Year and was the only HBCU player selected in this year’s draft. The defending champion Las Vegas Aces made Jackson their final pick at 36th overall.
