The city of Jackson will once again take center stage when the USA International Ballet Competition returns this summer.The two-week event includes ballet competitions, educational programs and a dance school. Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba and Mississippi First Lady Elee Reeves will announce details of the event Thursday at Thalia Mara Hall. The ballet competition will bring hundreds of dancers and visitors from all over the world to Jackson. The 2018 competition in Jackson had an economic impact of $12.5 million for the state of Mississippi.”This is a fantastic event that puts the city of Jackson on the world stage,” Lumumba said in a news release. “We have hosted this Olympics-style competition since 1979, and we are honored to be the official home of the USAIBC. We are thrilled to do everything to make this coming summer exceptional.”The 2023 competition will officially return to Jackson from June 10 through 24.
