Unlocking the Dash ability for one’s Mount is advised before searching for Pineco in Scarlet and Violet, as this Pokémon lives on branches of trees.
Similar to Applin, Pineco is a Bug-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that lives in trees throughout Paldea. This Bagworm Pokémon’s base stats are far from spectacular, but its Defense is notably high at 90. If Trainers manage to evolve Pineco into Forretress, this IV goes up all the way to 140, one of the highest Defense stats of any Bug-type pocket monster in the game. As a result, Forretress is a highly practical choice when going up against opponents that deal Normal-, Ice-, Psychic-, Bug-, Dragon-, Steel-, Fairy-, Grass-, and Poison-type Moves that make contact in combat.
As a Pokémon shaped like a pinecone, it is no surprise that Pineco prefers to live in and around trees in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. This Bagworm Pokémon occasionally spawns on the ground, but if Trainers encounter one perched atop the branches of a tree, they will need the Dash ability for their Mount. The Dash ability enables Koraidon or Miraidon to ram into a tree, causing pocket monsters like Applin or Pineco to fall to the forest floor. To unlock this Mount ability in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Trainers must find and defeat the Stony Cliff Titan: Klawf.
Catching and Evolving Pineco in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet
Pineco can be found in multiple locations across Paldea, including the Tagtree Thicket, Areas Three and Four of the South Province, Areas One and Two of the East Province, and West Province (Area Three). If Trainers would like a more specified location of where this Bug-type pocket monster can be found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, YouTube content creator Gamer Guides has demonstrated via gameplay that a choice spot to look would be the trees to the east of Artazon in Area One of the East Province. The video shows how they managed to get two Pinecos to fall using their Mount’s Dash ability.
After catching Pineco in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Trainers can evolve the Bug-type Bagworm into the Bug- and Steel-type Forretress by leveling it to Level 31. Leveling can be done through feeding Pineco EXP Candy, having it participate in battles or Tera Raids, or keeping it in the active party when exploring the world.
Wild Pineco also has a chance of dropping Pineco Husks, a TM crafting resource used to make TM091 Toxic Spikes, TM104 Iron Defense, and TM106 Drill Run. Toxic Spikes can inflict opponents with DoT poison, Iron Defense temporarily bolsters one’s Defense, and Drill Run increases the Critical Hit ratio in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
