  • Two years of delays have cast doubt on
    Euphoria
season 3 happening anytime soon, frustrating cast members.
  • Despite HBO’s public stance, actors are now free to take other jobs due to continuous production delays.
  • An anonymous star reveals their disappointment in the ongoing delays, expressing skepticism about the show’s return.

An anonymous cast member from HBO’s Euphoria doesn’t believe season 3 will actually happen. Following a hugely successful second season that saw ratings rise considerably, the Sam Levinson-created series has been on an extended hiatus since 2022. Recently, there have been rumors that HBO has canceled Euphoria, but the network came out with a statement insisting they still intend to make season 3. However, scripts are still being written, so production has been delayed again.

Though HBO is publicly standing by Euphoria season 3, one of its stars now casts doubt on the episodes actually making it to screens. Speaking anonymously to The Daily Beast, this star explains their frustration with the ongoing delay and bluntly says, “I just don’t think it will happen.” The actor also hints that the passing of producer Kevin Turen last fall is further impacting the show’s momentum. In response, Levinson’s team said, “HBO has answered all those speculative questions and assured everyone of a third season as originally planned in 2025.” Check out the cast member’s full comments below:

“Since January of 2022, we have had a start date of March that turned into June, that turned into January. And then they kept pushing every month from then on. It was two full years of HBO telling all the actors we were going back soon, so we couldn’t take some jobs.

“Before last week I couldn’t take any TV jobs. Since they have put it on hiatus, I can now take any job. But what sucks is that we all had more momentum right when the show came out but now it’s been 2 years of waiting.

“Because I’m an actor I will always be excited about any acting work so yes I am looking forward to returning. I just don’t think it will happen.”

Euphoria fans have been anxiously awaiting season 3 for a long time, and it sounds like they will have to wait even longer after additional delays.

Breaking Down Euphoria Season 3’s Production Issues

Will Season 3 Truly Happen?

Euphoria is no stranger to behind the scenes issues. The series, which follows the gritty and highly dramatized lives of several high school students, reached a new level of popularity with season 2 when it aired in early 2022. However, even amid that success, Euphoria faced allegations of being a difficult work environment, and star Barbie Ferreira was rumored to have clashed with Levinson on the creative direction of her character Kat.

Season 3 was announced before Euphoria season 2 ended, and Ferreira revealed she would be leaving the show. Initially, it looked as though season 3 would begin filming by early 2023 at the latest, with an eye on a 2024 release. However, that never came to fruition, and progress would be further hampered throughout 2023 by the dual writers and actors strikes. HBO eventually stated Euphoria season 3 would premiere in 2025, and Cassie actor Sydney Sweeney recently indicated filming was imminent.

This potential timeline was thrown into disarray by the rumors that Euphoria had been canceled, which prompted HBO to issue a statement that they and Levinson “remain committed to making an exceptional third season.” The network said the Euphoria cast, comprised of rising stars such as Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi, are able to take on other projects during this time, as the anonymous actor mentions above. Currently, Levinson is still working on the scripts, and the delay reportedly stems from creative issues as he works to figure out how to move the characters beyond high school.

With the Euphoria cast all finding substantial success elsewhere and Levinson having a reputation for an exacting creative process, it’s fair to wonder whether the controversial drama truly will come back for season 3. As HBO’s official stance is that Euphoria will continue, there’s no real reason to assume season 3 will end up canceled. However, a cast member expressing frustration and doubting whether it will happen does make it harder to believe that these are simply normal creative growing pains. Euphoria is in a precarious position, and it remains to be seen if it will get out of it.
