Australia preparing to ban TikTok from all Australian Government devices | 7NEWS
Popular social media platform, TikTok, could be banned from all Australian Government devices after a major security review. The main security concern is espionage.
Any personal information given to the app, which is owned by a Chinese company, has the potential to be provided to the Chinese government. Largely because a few years ago, Beijing ordered a new law that companies are now required to provide all data to the government that could be relevant to national security.
This has raised some eyebrows around the world. And there’s already been bans in the UK and US, most recently, last week New Zealand put restrictions on the platform.
Here in Australia, the department of finance, foreign affairs & trade and the prime minister and cabinet have already banned the app from work-issued phones.
