Just outside of Meridian, you will find an old bridge that’s been called one of the most terrifying places in America. The bridge is now abandoned and impassable, but in the late 1800s it was a popular crossing over the Chunky River. According to local legend, a man named Stuckey had a guest house nearby, but this was no ordinary inn. Old man Stuckey was a member of the Dalton Gang, a band of notorious robbers and outlaws. Stuckey would stand on the bridge at night and lure weary travelers into his inn where he would rob and murder his unfortunate guests and bury the bodies on the riverbank. After murdering 20 people, Stuckey was finally caught and hanged from the bridge that bears his name today. Visitors to the site have reported paranormal activity including sightings of an old man carrying a lantern along the river’s edge. The sound of loud unexplained splashes and visions of Stuckey’s lifeless corpse hanging from the bridge.
