April 17 update:

JCPenney has announced changes to its loyalty program in an effort to “simplify” it for members and make it much easier to get rewards.

Here’s What’s Changing

The JCPenney loyalty program is still free to join, but the points and rewards you earn are getting a fresh new name — CashPass Rewards, which can still be stacked on top of other coupons.

As a member, you’ll earn 1 CashPass point for every $1 you spend (down from $2) and a $10 CashPass Reward once you’ve spent $200. Members who use their JCP credit card to pay for purchases will earn 1.5 CashPass points (up from 1 point) per $1 they spend and get a $10 CashPass Reward once they spend $133 (down from $200), plus an extra 35% off their first purchase with their JCPenney credit card.

JCP’s updated Rewards Program will offer new members a $10 CashPass Reward for joining. All rewards members will get a $10 CashPass Reward on their birthday.

If you’re cautious about signing up for loyalty programs because keeping track of them seems too complicated or they don’t appear to offer enough enticing perks, you’ll be delighted by JCPenneys rewards program. Why? Registering is a snap, keeping track of your rewards is straightforward, and best of all, JCP’s loyalty plan can be quite lucrative if you’re a frequent shopper and know how to put the program to good use. Whether you’re a new JCPenney customer enticed by the brand’s growing beauty presence and recent store upgrades or you’ve been shopping JCP’s aisles for years, it’s definitely worth it to sign up.

Read on for everything you need to know about the 121-year-old retailer’s free loyalty plan, including how to join and take full advantage.

What Is the JCPenney Rewards Program?

Like other retailer loyalty programs, JCPenney Rewards is a loyalty plan that gives you points for shopping at their stores. In turn, those points become CashPass Rewards for future purchases. Membership offers other perks, too, such as a special birthday gift.

Anyone who is a U.S. resident and is at least 18 years old is eligible to join. You do not have to have a JCPenney credit card to be a member, though credit card holders get a lot of extra perks (more on that later). And, yes, JCPenney Rewards is free to join!

How To Enroll in the JCPenney Rewards Program

Go to JCPenney Rewards to sign up. Enter your first and last name, phone number, and email, then choose a password. You’re ready to start earning your rewards.

As a thank you for joining, JCPenney will email you a $10 CashPass Reward and a 30% off coupon to use at JCPenney in stores or online right away. This can be applied to select regular and sale-priced items. It’s basically a no-brainer to sign up for that coupon alone if you’re about to buy something and aren’t already a member.

How Do You Earn JCPenney Rewards Points?

For every $1 spent at JCPenney, members earn 1 CashPass point, while JCP credit card holders earn 1.5 CashPass points (up from 1 point) for every $1 they spend. Once you reach 200 points from shopping, you will be given a $10 CashPass Reward to use on a JCPenney purchase or $133 spent for JCP credit card holders.

You also get a $10 reward when you spend just $50 at JCPenney in stores or online during bonus event periods, and there may be certain times when you get bonus points when you shop.

  • To earn points in stores:

During checkout, give the cashier the phone number or email address associated with your JCPenney Rewards account so they can pull up your membership. Or, you can show them your account on the JCPenney app and they can scan your membership barcode. The app conveniently also holds all your rewards and all your JCPenney coupons, too, so it’s worth a peek before you check out anyway.

Log into your account before you check out and pay. The same goes for shopping via the app.

What Are the Benefits of Being a JCPenney Rewards Member?

The biggest benefit is savings on future purchases. For every 200 points earned, you get a $10 CashPass Reward. During bonus event periods, JCPenney will also give you a $10 reward towards a future purchase when you spend just $50 at JCPenney in stores or online.

Other benefits include a special $10 CashPass birthday reward and special double shopping points periods. JCPenney may also send their members bonus points and percent-off or dollar-off coupons throughout the year.

Where Do You Find Your JCPenney Rewards?

Check your Rewards online at JCPenney’s website or on the app, or you can access your rewards at the checkout counter at a JCPenney store. JCPenney will also email you your $10 CashPass Rewards, which you can print out. JCPenney says they may send you the same reward in multiple ways, like via email and also via the app, but each reward has a unique barcode, so you won’t be able to double dip.

How Do You Redeem JCPenney $10 Rewards?

You can redeem up to 10 of the $10 JCPenney Rewards at once.

  • To redeem rewards in stores:

At checkout, you can give the salesperson the phone number or email address associated with your Rewards membership, and they can look up your account and use any existing rewards. You can also show them the JCPenney app, and they can scan your account number. Lastly, you could print your rewards from the JCPenney website or email.

  • To redeem rewards online:

Sign into your account online. Before you check out, you can apply rewards to your purchase. You can also manually enter a reward code.

Do JCPenney Points Expire?

You don’t lose your points as long as your account with JCPenney is active, meaning you’ve bought a “qualifying” item within the past 12 months. However, once your Rewards coupon is issued, those do expire in “a minimum of 45 days,” the retailer says. The expiration date will be listed on the Reward, so be sure to check that out as soon as you get a new reward and use it before it expires.

What Are the Different JCPenney Membership Tiers?

There is only one tier unless you’re a JCPenney credit card holder. Talk about simple! If you are a credit card holder, there are three tiers: Red, Gold, and Platinum, which offer members special savings days, special financing and other perks.
