With his wives and many children, Kody Brown is the controversial patriarch on Sister Wives. While he hasn’t impressed viewers with his parenting skills or his ability to be a supportive, loving husband to any of his wives, Kody is a huge part of the Sister Wives trainwreck audiences can’t look away from. The dynamic of four people trying to share a single spouse naturally lends itself to drama and fighting, even with some of Kody’s marriages recently having ended. Viewers now want to know more about Kody and what he does when not badly handling his home situation.
While figuring out the new normal was difficult for everyone during the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, it was even more challenging for the large dysfunctional Sister Wives family. While Kody, whose three marriages have ended, was eager to share about his life on TV, it’s had a negative effect on the family, costing his now-ex-wife Meri Brown her job and getting the whole family kicked out of the Apostolic United Brethren Church, not to mention putting his young kids in the public eye.

When Sister Wives premiered in 2010, Kody vaguely referred to working in ad sales. He never named a company or was shown doing any kind of work and rarely mentioned his job since the first season. While Kody is ambiguous about his profession, he seems to currently work as a firearms salesman; however, that may have changed since Sister Wives has become such a hit. The family’s monetary struggles suggest Kody, who deserved to lose his wives, may not be managing his business very well. When ratings for Sister Wives were falling, Kody negotiated their salaries down significantly to keep the show going.
Most viewers seem to have more sympathy for Kody’s wife, Robyn Brown, and ex-wives Meri, Janelle, and Christine Brown than for Kody himself. Though Kody once made the decisions for the whole family, from where they live to how they quarantine, three of his four wives have chosen to leave their marriage with Kody and made their own calls.
