Jarrian Jones picked in NFL draft by the Jaguars

Day two was quite a night for Magee native and former Northwest Rankin Cougar Jarrian Jones and his family. Jarrian was picked 96th overall in the NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars.Jarrian started playing football when we got to Northwest Rankin. He signed to Mississippi State out of high school and after a year he transferred to Florida State where he flourished as a playmaking defensive back. His film and performance at his Pro Day made him a hot commodity among scouts. He was projected to go in the top 100 and that projections was accurate.For the second year in a row a metro area native was taken on day two of the draft. In 2023 Brandon’s Jonathan Mingo was taken in the second round by the Carolina Panthers.Also of note-Jarrian’s Florida State teammate, Trey Benson, was the first Mississippian off the board. Benson, a Greenville native, was the lead back for Florida State and he was picked 66th overall by the Arizona Cardinals.
