A man accused of shooting at a Clinton police officer is headed to prison.Jerry McAlister was sentenced to 10 years for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon while firing at officers during a high-speed pursuit, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Police said the July 21, 2021, incident started as a traffic stop on Interstate 20 when a driver failed to comply and pull over. An officer pursued McAlister from Clinton to Jackson, where McAlister fired multiple shots at the Clinton police cruiser while they were driving, authorities said.Police said McAlister got out of the car on Woody Drive in Jackson and got into a physical altercation with the officer. The officer suffered a minor injury to his knees, police said at the time. The Clinton Police Department and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
