Councilman Kenneth Stokes says he has a new proposal for fighting violent crime in Jackson. Stokes says he wants to propose a new ordinance to city council Tuesday that would give the Jackson Police Department the ability to impound any car used in drive-by shootings and then the title would then be turned over to the city of Jackson. “They have these street-sweepers, these AKs, and they shooting up whole neighborhoods with drive-by shootings, and we’re gonna stop it,” said Councilman Stokes. Stokes also said, “We’re going to seize your car. Once, we seize your car, it’s going to become the property of the city of Jackson. It’s too late to cry about, well I’ve got to get to work. We are not going to tolerate drive-by shootings in the city of Jackson.”There is an exception for the proposed ordinance in the case of stolen vehicles used in drive-by shootings as long as those vehicles have been reported to law enforcement.
