Nymphia lived in Taiwan for the majority of her life and attended college in England. She told CNA that she started drag roughly five years ago in Taiwan. Before she became a drag queen, Nymphia served time in the Taiwanese Military. Taiwanese citizens are mandated to serve time in their military and Nymphia served a total of six months in the Taiwanese Fire Brigade. She told Entertainment Weekly she began performing in drag after her military service, which she described as “interesting.” “My mom helped me apply substitute service,” she said, adding, “So I went to the fire department instead of the actual army.” Since appearing on Drag Race, Nymphia has been booked and busy performing in drag.

Her interest in drag began during her years in middle and high school. She told Taiwan Scene that as a fan of K-pop, Nymphia and her friends enjoyed dressing up and putting on their own performances. I guess that’s what instilled this idea in me of dressing up and getting creative with makeup,” she said. Nymphia was hesitant about the makeup aspect of drag, but she continued experimenting. “I actually wasn’t sure about the makeup at first though – I know, hard to believe, right? In time though, I caught the bug, and by university, I’d started practicing on myself,” she revealed.

Nymphia is producing her first event in the United States, the Banana Fever Ball, which will be held on April 19. The event serves as a special viewing for the season 16 finale. Nymphia, Sapphira, and Plane Jane will embark on their TOP 3 tour across Australia later this year. She’s been performing at bars every week since season 16 premiered, and it would be no surprise if she is added as a new addition to the Werq the World tour or the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race Live in Las Vegas.

According to CNA, Nymphia’s mother has assisted her by helping her make props and doing her makeup for her performances.Every kid wants the support of their family,” said Nymphia. “It’s possible to continue doing drag regardless of whether you have it or not but it can be hard without that backing,” she added. Nymphia is incredibly grateful for her mother’s continued support.

Nymphia Wind’s Journey On RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 16

Nymphia Finished The Race With Three Wins

Nymphia had a well-rounded journey in season 16. She came into the competition prepared to show off her brand, defined by bananas and the color yellow. During her talent show performance, Nymphia performed a traditional Asian sleeve dance, a talent that the show hadn’t seen. Nymphia caught the attention of the fans for bringing something fresh to the competition, instantly becoming one of the breakout stars. This momentum only continued when the queens took on their first design challenge of the season, the Mother of All Balls.

Nymphia had showcased great looks thus far, but after the ball episode, her true design skills were on display. The queens were tasked with showcasing three looks during the ball episode. Their third look, Call Me Mother/Father Eleganza, was to be made out of men’s clothing and sewn during the competition. Nymphia arguably blew all her competitors out of the water with this look, crafting an incredible ensemble defined by many structured men’s ties. From this moment forward, Nymphia was deemed the fashion queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race season 16 and continued to dominate the runways each week.

Her biggest misstep during the season came during the Snatch Game challenge, where she did a celebrity impersonation of Jane Goodall. Despite not having a great performance during the challenge, she was saved from the bottom two because of her runway look inspired by Japanese Butoh dancing. From that point on, Nymphia continued to grow and finished the season by winning the final maxi challenge. She formed great relationships with her fellow queens, so much so that Plane Jane used her immunity during the verse-writing and performing challenge on Nymphia, saving her from the bottom.

In their final memoir writing challenge, the queens did a podcast with Matt Rogers, and Nymphia opened up about her struggles with self-confidence. The task of the challenge was to allow the audience to learn more about the queens, and Nymphia did that. The judges commended Nymphia for opening up about her insecurities, and RuPaul named her the winner of the challenge. Nymphia’s success with fashion throughout the competition deemed her a suitable candidate for the crown. However, her vulnerability gave her that extra push to solidify her as a fan favorite.

I really hated looking in the mirror in general growing up. Even till now, I don’t have the habit of staring myself into the mirror unless I have to do makeup,”
she told Matt
. “And that is still something that I’m building upon – my confidence. So I feel like drag, even though may not be able to solve the problem, it really did help me to, you know, build my own self-confidence
.”

Rounding out the season with three wins, Nymphia is a viable contender for the esteemed title of America’s Next Drag Superstar. Her fashion sense has affixed her as a fashion queen among the fandom. She has stiff competition with her fellow top 3 finalists, Sapphira and Plane Jane, but it wouldn’t surprise fans if Nymphia won the entire competition.
