After nearly 11 years of dormancy, Wes Craven’s slasher franchise was relaunched with the arrival of 2022’s Scream. The movie returned audiences to the eerie town of Woodsboro as Ghostface hunted down a new string of victims. Scream made $138.8 million worldwide, and soon after, Paramount and Spyglass put a sequel into development. Scream 6 will now arrive in March 2023, with Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett directing again. Past franchise stars Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding also return. However, franchise lead Neve Campbell won’t star in Scream 6, as she was not impressed by the package she was offered.
Now, Deadline reports that Scream 6 has added some new actors to its cast. Jack Champion (Avatar: The Way of Water), Liana Liberato (Sons of Anarchy), Devyn Nekoda (Sneakerella), and Josh Segarra (She-Hulk) will star in the franchise’s latest installment. Details on their roles are being kept under wraps.
Quite expectedly, Scream 6 will feel tangibly different than the past movies in the franchise. With Campbell gone and the movie taking on a New York setting, the four survivors are set to confront a more aggressive and violent version of Ghostface. It’s too early to predict how the new actors will fit into the story, but the greater likelihood is that they might end up becoming unfortunate victims of the masked murderer. Filming on Scream 6 is currently underway, so more details will become clear once set photos and videos surface.
