Tom Cruise is filming Mission: Impossible 8 near the studios where they shoot Call the Midwife, and his helicopter flying has ruined several scenes.
Tom Cruise flying his helicopter during the filming of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two has ruined the filming of scenes from Call the Midwife. The British period drama, which began airing on BBC One in 2012, is set in London’s East End during the late 1950s and early 1960s. It follows the exploits of a group of midwives working at the nursing convent Nonnatus House.
Per The Mirror, recently Call the Midwife star Jenny Agutter revealed that Cruise has been flying his helicopter at Longcross, the same studio where the series shoots. She jokingly complained that the action superstar “keeps on ruining our filming.” The quiet drama certainly has next to nothing in common with the high-octane adventures of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part Two going on next door. What Tom Cruise Stunts to Expect in Mission: Impossible 8
Tom Cruise has played Ethan Hunt, the lead superspy in the Mission: Impossible franchise, since the original film debuted in 1996. Over the years, the films have pivoted to center around various daring stunts performed by the actor himself, notably beginning with his decision to actually run down the side of the Burj Khalifa while filming the fourth film, 2011’s Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol. Since then, he has continuously upped the ante, with stunts that have included being strapped to the side of a flying jet in 2015’s Rogue Nation and a low-altitude HALO jump from a C-17 plane in 2018’s appropriately titled Fallout.
The upcoming duology of Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One (out July 14, 2023) and Part Two (out June 28, 2024) are expected to be Cruise’s final outings in his iconic role. As such, they are going to try and up the ante on Cruise’s signature stunts as much as possible. So far, the plot of the two films is being kept under wraps, but details on several of the stunts he will be attempting have dropped over the course of filming.
For instance, Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One has already shared several images of Cruise hanging off the top of a biplane that is flying through the air upside down. In addition to a motorcycle stunt, there will also be a huge action setpiece involving a submarine that recurs between both Mission: Impossible films. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two director Christopher McQuarrie has also teased that the finale will feature the biggest stunts yet, so the Call the Midwife team may have to prepare their earplugs.
