Jackson State women’s basketball coach Tomekia Reed is leaving for the Charlotte 49ers.The women’s basketball page for UNC Charlotte posted the announcement on social media Thursday. In six seasons as head coach, Reed won SWAC Coach of the Year four times and HBCU Coach of the Year three times. UNC Charlotte is in the American Conference.Her exit comes after leading Jackson State to the NCCA tournament, losing to third-ranked UConn this past season.The Tigers made it to the big dance in 2021, 2022, and 2024. Reed and her squad won five SWAC regular season titles and three SWAC tournament titles.It’s unclear who will take over as Jackson State’s next head coach.
