After being renewed for one more season, The CW made the announcement in 2022 that The Flash will finish its run on the network with its shortest season yet at just 13 episodes, which are set to premiere season 9 on February 8. Long-time cast members Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, and Danielle Panabaker will be back for The Flash season 9. Production is currently working on some of the final episodes in Vancouver, Canada, which will be wrapped in March.
The CW has been going full with the marketing for The Flash season 9 ahead of its highly anticipated season premiere, though such stars as Candice Patton are offering a different kind of look at what’s to come from the show’s final chapter.
Patton, who has starred as Iris since The Flash season 1, shared on Instagram some emotional BTS images with her fellow West family co-stars, highlighting the group’s reunion in season 9. The Flash’s female lead can be seen sharing a group hug with Keiynan Lonsdale (Kid Flash) and Jesse L. Martin (Joe West), as this will be the final season they work together.
What’s Next For The West Family In The Flash Season 9
Following her death and rebirth in The Flash season 8 finale, Iris and Barry will be growing closer than ever in season 9. As they will be together more in the final season, they will be facing new threats as a unit rather than being separated. One of the confirmed details about Iris’ arc is that she will team up with Supergirl’s Dreamer for a journalist-related storyline. The Flash season 9 trailers have also foreshadowed Iris’ possible pregnancy, as Nora West-Allen is meant to be born in 2023.
While Martin will not be a series regular in The Flash season 9, as he was in prior seasons, he is set to recur throughout the season in a reported five episodes, including the season premiere. The synopsis for the premiere teases that Joe “has a heart-to-heart with Cecile” when the show returns. Whatever is set up in the first episode will go into episode 2 as “Hear No Evil” teases that Joe asks Cecile “to make a choice which leads Cecile to think about the greater good“, which could foreshadow why Joe won’t be in every episode of The Flash season 9.
Wally West is making his comeback for The Flash season 9 in episode 9, which was directed by Danielle Panabaker, with showrunner Eric Wallace teasing that Wally’s return was created with the intention to be “a special and heartfelt story for his return.” The episode will explore a side of Wally that “you’ve never seen before,” according to Wallace, and even though details are being kept under wraps, Wally will definitely be suiting up as Kid Flash in his returning episode. That same episode will also feature the return of David Ramsey’s John Diggle and Sendhil Ramamurthy’s Bloodwork, while episode 9 will see Stephen Amell as Green Arrow, making this a huge Arrowverse reunion. With only a week left to go, the beginning of the end of The Flash season 9 is almost here.
