Race makes a difference in how stories are reported–even when matters are not explicitly about race. Journalists have received criticism for using passive voice to describe white perpetrators of crime, of failing to use proper titles when describing people of color in stories, and of simply failing to cover issues that impact people of color. Would a more diverse press make a difference. In this week’s episode Marlon Walker of The Marshall Project will discuss the importance of representation in the newsroom while proposing solutions for more balanced coverage.
