It’s been a while since a new entry in the Gears of War series, but there’s good reason to believe that a reveal of the next game could be happening in the near future. Gears of War 5 released in 2019, so the signature series hasn’t yet made a current generation debut with a new mainline game on the Xbox Series X/S. There isn’t anything quite like its bulked-up brand of third-person shooter gameplay, and as the gap between games nears the five-year mark, it definitely feels like time for a new entry.
As reported by Windows Central, Gears of War voice actor Liam McIntyre provided a potential update on Gears of War 6 in a tweet referencing a reveal in June. McIntyre plays JD Fenix, the Gears of War 4 protagonist whose canon fate has been unclear ever since a choice made at the end of the fifth game.
In response to a question about this particular issue, McIntyre claimed to have no knowledge of the answer but said that June might bring an official clarification from Gears of War.

Xbox’s Annual June Showcase Is Always Big
The obvious candidate for the Gears of War 6 reveal is an Xbox showcase that’s planned to happen in June, originally revealed by the official Xbox X (formerly Twitter) account in February. This event is following a pattern set in the past several years, presumably corresponding with the digital Summer Game Fest event that has essentially replaced the officially defunct E3 event. As the return of a major Microsoft exclusive franchise, showcasing Gears of War 6 in a major Xbox presentation makes sense and tracks with E3 reveals for past games in the series.
The specific date for the June 2024 Xbox showcase hasn’t yet been confirmed, but an educated guess can be made based on the pattern set so far. 2022 and 2023 both saw Microsoft’s showcase land on the Sunday following the weekday kickoff of Summer Game Fest, and this year’s main event is happening on June 7, which would make June 9 the main candidate for an Xbox presentation.

If he’s telling the truth about being unsure of JD’s fate, he may not be directly in the loop on everything, and the June reveal could be partly conjecture. A comment from a major voice actor in the games is still a surprisingly direct source, however, and it definitely looks promising.
The most recent Gears of War games have been somewhat contentious among fans, but it’s still a series with some unique strengths, and the return has the potential to be exciting. Xbox’s most iconic exclusive, Halo, also went through a bit of a rough spot, and despite its own problems, Halo Infinite has proven to stand out in ways that definitely make it worth playing. There’s no guarantee that the next Gears of War will be revealed at the June 2024 Xbox showcase, but it’s not a possibility to discount.
