Jackson police are investigating a Sunday carjacking. The vehicle has been located and recovered, but the suspect is still on the run deemed armed and dangerous. A white 2023 Chrysler 300, with license plate number HNW 2617 was stolen April 21 from the 2000 block of Raymond Road, according to detectives. The suspect was wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants. Surveillance video shows the suspect going up to Dorothy Williams while she was pumping gas. He showed her a gun and asked for her keys before taking off. The incident has left Williams with a lot of worry. “Physically I’m ok but mentally I can’t eat, can’t sleep and then I started looking and thinking about his face all day long,” said Williams.The U.S. Attorney’s office announced a new carjacking task force in the capital city a day after William’s incident. “We’ve all experienced where your looking around, or at the grocery store, at the post office at Walmart at Target, carjackings make people live in fear and it affects our daily lives,” said U.S. Attorney Todd Gee. In 2023, both the Capitol Police and JPD reported a total of 175 carjackings. Federal partners including the FBI will work with local law enforcement agencies to share intel, data and track down criminals. Gee said other cities who have implemented carjacking task forces are seeing a lot of success. “We think following that model here in Jackson can have a lot of success, just like it has in Philadelphia and those other cities,” said Gee.
