Mississippi Supreme Court upholds sentence for man convicted in connection to the murder of 6-year-old Kingston Frazier
The Mississippi Supreme Court is affirming the sentence of a man convicted for his role in the murder of six-year-old Kingston Frazier.According to court documents released Friday from the Administrative Office of Courts, Dwan Wakefield Jr. petitioned the courts to overturn his sentence to address whether or not he could be charged with multiple counts of accessory after the fact for a single crime.The state supreme court agreed with Madison County Circuit Court and the Court of Appeals that the state may charge multiple violations for each felony committed.Wakefield attempted to appeal his conviction in March of 2023 but was denied, which led to him taking the case up to the state supreme court.Dwan Wakefield was convicted of accessory after the fact of murder, kidnapping and auto theft in connection with the 2017 Kingston Frazier case. Kingston was in the back of his mother’s car on May 18, 2017, when it was stolen from the Kroger on Interstate 55 in Jackson, police said. Kingston’s body was found hours later in the car, which was abandoned on Gluckstadt Road in Madison County.Accused shooter Byron McBride pleaded guilty to capital murder and was sentenced to life in prison. D’Allen Washington pleaded guilty in 2018 to accessory after the fact to kidnapping and was sentenced to 15 years in prison, but he was paroled in 2022.Washington was arrested again in February following a drug bust in a parking lot in Flowood.
