Netflix reveals new Resident Evil show footage teasing drastic changes to Albert Wesker from the murderous psychopath to a family man.

Though better known as an antagonist, new Resident Evil show footage teases a completely different Albert Wesker. The series marks the first live-action TV adaptation of Capcom’s iconic survival horror video game franchise following the Milla Jovovich-led movies and last year’s reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, which adapted the first two games of the franchise. Resident Evil is set to revolve around Jade Wesker at two points in her life, the first of which sees her moving to New Raccoon City with her dad Albert and half-twin Billie and learns of the former’s dark secrets with the Umbrella Corporation, while the second is set 14 years later in which she is struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by T-virus-infected humans.

Ella Balinska is leading the cast of Resident Evil as the older Jade alongside Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Tamara Smart as a young Jade, Adeline Rudolph as an older Billie, Siena Agudong as a young Billie, Paola Núñez, Mpho Osei Tutu and Turlough Convery. Development on the Resident Evil show was first announced in early 2019 when Netflix acquired the rights to the project, with Supernatural vet Andrew Dabb being brought on as showrunner the following year. As Resident Evil gears up for its release, Netflix is offering a new look at the series that teases a major twist to an iconic character.

With just a few days remaining until its premiere, Netflix has released new Resident Evil show footage. The video reveals drastic changes to Wesker, going from the psychopathic antagonist of the games to a family man as he protects his daughters from Umbrella. Check out the new footage below:

Though the new Resident Evil show footage may not offer much in the way of the actual story from the series, it does point towards a different personality coming from Reddick’s Wesker. In addition to having daughters for the first time in the franchise, the video points towards Wesker abandoning his more psychopathic tendencies of the Capcom video games for a protective father figure mentality. With that said, the new Resident Evil show footage does hint towards him still retaining his secretive nature seen in the games as he keeps his daughters’ being at Umbrella from his bosses and seemingly covers up how they killed a T-virus-infected dog.

Fans of the franchise have been theorizing for a year how Wesker has come back to life for the Resident Evil show, namely as showrunner Andrew Dabb has confirmed the series is set within the larger video game timeline. Those eager for an answer to Wesker’s revival and his seeming personality change can rest excited as Dabb has also confirmed that these elements of the character will be explained in the series. The Resident Evil show is nearly here as the series hits Netflix on July 14.
