The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo‘s original Lisbeth actor, Noomi Rapace, shares her advice for Amazon’s TV reboot. Stieg Larsson’s Millennium series was first adapted into the 2009 Swedish-language film trilogy, which includes The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest – all of which starred Noomi Rapace as Lisbeth. In 2020, it was announced that Amazon was adapting its own television adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Rapace offered her advice for Amazon’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. The original Lisbeth actress says the reboot should ignore past adaptations and attempt to make something boldly new and unique. I think you always have to make it yours. Just be a bit impolite, don’t look back too much. Don’t look at the old ones, you know? [Chuckles] Make it yours. I think it’s good to be a bit disrespectful. Even when you do adaptations, you always have to be respectfully disrespectful. Just take it, make it yours, and give birth to it, and have fun. I don’t know what this series is about, actually, so I don’t know where they start it, and who’s writing it. But Lisbeth has a very complex childhood and went through a lot, which formed the person we meet in the films I did. I always find it interesting — I could totally see that be the beginning, to have an episode of her being a 13-year-old, and how that really shaped her and formed her, so she became the person she is. Because I think that was the crucial switch, when she shut down her heart and became a warrior against society and men.

What To Expect From Amazon’s Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Series
Though little is known about the actual project, it appears Amazon’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series is already aiming for the type of adaptation that Rapace describes. When it was first announced in 2020, it was said that the series would feature Lisbeth Salander, but would invent an entirely original story. In doing so, Amazon’s series can make the character of Lisbeth its own without dwelling too much on previous adaptations, just as Rapace suggests it should.
